Aldril Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ---a company under the InnoGen Pharma Group---sponsored on March 2 to 3, 2007, the 5th Postgraduate Course of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital Faculty and Alumni of the Neurosciences (UPFANS.) in cooperation with the Department of Neurosciences of UP-PGH.
The symposium was held in the ballroom of Pan Pacific-Manila attended by “clinicians, internists, neurologists, family physicians, nurse practitioners and other health professionals who wanted to be updated in the management of common neurologic disorders,” with migraine specialist Regina Macalintal-Canlas, M.D., as resources speaker and lecturer.
In her talk, Dr. Macalintal-Canlas told the UPFANS members that the best way to resolve migraine is through prevention, mentioning Sumatriptan which is a 5-HT AGONIST.
Dr. Canlas also said, the patient should first identify and control the causes of the start of a migraine attack.
She suggested lifestyle change and diet. This means the person ---among other things--- should not miss meals and should have enough sleep. However, too much or too little of sleep can also cause Migraine.
Other causes of migraine she stressed was a change of weather, stress and high altitude. The gathering was attended by some 50 UPFANS members.
