Contents Montelukast Na
Indications Treatment of bronchial asthma & allergic rhinitis.
Dosage Adult & children >15 yr 10 mg tab daily.
Children 6-14 yr 5 mg tab. 2-5 yr 4 mg tab. Doses to be taken once daily at bedtime.
Administration May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions Montelukast & other leukotriene antagonists should not be taken for the treatment of acute asthma attack.
Adverse Drug Reactions Headache, increased incidence of resp tract infection (in the elderly), & GI disturbances. Generalized pain, arthralgia & myalgia, fever & dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions e.g. urticaria & angioedema.
Pregnancy Category (US FDA) Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).
